Petition to AAS to Support Black Scholars of Asia
On 15 June 2020, I submitted a petition to the Association for Asian Studies Board of Directors along with my colleagues Levi McLaughlin (Associate Professor, North Carolina State University), Kimberlee Sanders (PhD Candidate, Harvard University), and Michelle Wang (Associate Professor, Georgetown University). With 1410 signatures, the petition called on the Association to engage in four concrete steps to foster Black students and faculty and to combat anti-Black racism in the profession.
